"Phil Willis is standing down after 13 very successful years", says I on the doorstep. Often now the response, with a smile, is "Oh, Yes, and Claire Kelley is replacing him", even before I finish my introduction about what a great MP Claire will be.
When Claire and I are talking to a resident together, I am always impressed at her passion for Libdem policies and her determination to get the best for Harrogate, Knaresborough, Boroughbridge and the hinterland. She articulates well our four steps to a fairer Britain:
Fair taxes ............a fair start for all children at school .............a rebalanced, fair and green economy ..........and clean, open, fair politics.
And today I even had a Tory Councillor tell me how well Claire had come across on the Politics Show yesterday.
We are not complacent. Claire has a great act to follow - we have got used to having an outstanding MP in Phil Willis, and we are confident we will have another outstanding MP in Claire Kelley.
